I was thinking about this as well. It hit me we never see Ben "seeing Christian" or any other resurrected person. I'm thinking now, that Ben had no idea John would come back, or at least doubted it. Perhaps he just thought Ben needed to be the substitute for Jack's dead father and nothing more.
We will find out soon.

UNLESS of course John Locke's dad was resurrected after he died? Then Ben WOULD know it is possible.

They haven't said yet. So far, the presumption is that Ben brought John's Father's corpse (died in a car crash) to the island and he resurrected.

Def.... when Locke told Ben about Jin's ring, Ben realized he could convince "one" to come back to the island, which would convince the others. If you watch the scene, Ben takes off his jacket after this and puts it on the chair... Like he is getting ready to kill Locke.

From everything we have seen.... if you die on the island, you are dead. If you die off and are brought to the island, you are resurrected.

Ben mentioned a magic box. I think at the time the writers really meant a magic box. Maybe they couldn't make that work so they will find a different way to explain it. Or even more probable never mention it again.
