Homerism is strong today...

Look, ALL of those jobs were considered destination jobs. That means that no one would leave any of those jobs. He isn't saying that a coach would leave LSU to coach at USC. All he's saying is that coaching at USC, Texas, etc is easier than coaching at the top tier SEC schools.

Don't take that as an insult. Take pride in it.

P.S. LSU isn't "fourth" in the gold tier. Teams aren't ranked within tiers; they are listed in alphabetical order.

I have always considered LSU a premier job, but never thought of it as the "best" job in college coaching for pretty much the reasons everyone else said (tough to compete, high expectations, other equally prestigious positions with less pressure or competition, etc.). However, I have always thought of LSU as a perfect place for an excellent coach to prove himself at the highest levels outside of the NFL. All the tools exist here to build a strong program, and the competition affords the opportunity to show how successful a coach has been at building the program. To me, that makes us the perfect place for a coach who wants to get higher (i.e., the NFL). That was exactly the formula Saban used to get his dream deal with Miami. He would never have had the opportunity to earn that kind of offer at Michigan State. There are probably only 2 or 3 other programs in the country that could offer a similar opportunity (Florida, maybe Georgia, possibly OU/Texas).

As such, I kind of figured that our job would be most targeted by coaches who have their sights set on the NFL (which isn't a problem, as long as we keep replacing them with equally successful coaches). Happily, Miles has not yet shown that intent, despite having the success to do so.
