Former Tiger great Stephen Peterman just signed a 5 year, $15 million contract with the Detroit Lions ($5.5 million guarenteed).

After being drafted in the 3rd round by the Cowboys in 2004, Stephen started the past 2 years at right guard for the Lions.

But the Lions really have a bunch to do to even be competitive in the NFL.

I didn't even know he was still in the league after things didn't work out with the cowboys. People in Dallas called him a bust.

No shite, that's awesome. One of the better Olinemen we've produced recently. I figured he was out of the league by now.

He is. The Detroit Lions have been relegated to the Eastern Conference of the MLS.

Dallas got him to play right tackle and that didn't quite work out so they cut him in '06. Detroit signed him to their practice squad and moved him to guard. Then they signed him and he's been playing pretty well there since.

Some comentators were talking about rebuilding the team last year and said that Peterman was one of the more solid linemen that they didn't have to replace. FWIW

Their offense wasn't good by any means, but they were definitely NOT the reason for there 0-16 record. There defense last year was beyond awful.

Their offense obviously needs a QB, but they definitely have players at WR (Possibly the BEST WR in Football), solid RB, and a solid OL.

Could not have happened to a better guy. I grew up with Stephen in Waveland, MS and we keep in touch still. I think he has like 3 or 4 kids now and is happily married. You are right about his parents and this is just a great story for a true Tiger/Rockachaw.

Did you got to grammer school with him. I went to St. Claire just wondering if we went to school together.

Peterman was never going to play tackle for the cowboys. they knew he was a guard or possibly wanted to see if he could play center (Parcells regime).

Good for him. I remember walking down Highland Rd. one late night over by the north gates, and seeing him sitting at the bus stop with his infant. Here was this massive bald dude holding this tiny baby, and he looked up at me and just smiled.
