Blame the defensive coverage on Saban from the "gitgo" of the game. IOWA couldn't run the ball all year, but in the CAPITAL ONE BOWL they ran all over LSU. Because of this LSU had to play "catch-up" until LSU succeeded in going ahead late in the game. Giving up the "Hail Mary" on the final play was just "icing on the cake" for the 2004 season. How many times did LSU have the opposing teams offense with a 4th and long situation and the offense was successful on making first downs. 4th and 17 comes to mind against AUBURN in 2004!

Buz (forget 2002, 2004 and SABAN)

I remeber a 4th and 9 against Auburn. Maybe I'm wrong. His big dumbassed move against AU was pulling Randall and putting in Russell for no aparant reason.

Regardless, once we see that Iowa is lining up for the hail mary and not stopping the clock, you call off the all out blitz. Not sure how easy it would have been for this to happen, but with about 10 seconds left, I realized that they were not spiking the ball and lining up for it.
