University of Oklahoma

Has anybody figured out yet why the University of Oklahoma goes by "OU" instead of "UO"? Just curious... Is it because it is easier to say? Is there a story behind it? Are they just crappy spellers?

because they dont go by "university of oklahoma", they go by "oklahoma university"

I think its because thats the order of the vowels you learn in first grade...A E I OU.

for the same reason the University of Colorado goes by CU?
