Excluding offensive linemen, because it would be possible to list 30 or 40 very underrated offensive linemen just going back 15 or 20 years - likewise, fullbacks are also underrated (Tommy Banks, notwithstanding).

I thought that Joseph Addai was very underrated until late in his career at LSU. Likewise, Rondell Mealy was underrated.

Pat Rogers and Allen Stansberry formed one of the most underrated LB tandems we ever had. No chance of either of them playing in the NFL, size/talent-wise, but they were two of the hardest working, smartest football players we had.

Craig Steltz was All-American, but I think he was underrated by LSU fans.

For me, I guess it was Rogers and Stansberry. The other guys I listed here, specifically, at least got a chance in the NFL.

He was too short comming out of High school to be a Div. 1 starting QB. He ended up starting games as a true freshman, beating Nick Saban in the Independance bowl his freshman year. HE followed that up by beating Florida who was ranked number 1 in the country his sophmore year.
He also quaterback the Tigers through a 10-1 season and capped it off with a victory over a highly ranked Clemson team in the peach bowl.

I also put in on this list Dalton Hillard who was a 6th string running back when fall pratice started his freshman year. He cause Eric martin to be moved from running back to receiver.

If we're going recent, why not Patrick Fisher? There's not many positions underrated as much as punter, and Patrick was the best punter in CFB last year and a HUGE part in our title.

I have to say Mickey Guidry. He was buried behind Tommy Hodson but could have started for most SEC teams. When he did come in the game, we scored.

I wonder if he wants us to go all the way back to 1893? I didn't have tickets back then, so I honestly can't tell you.

Out of HS all the attention was on Garry James. But Dalton was as fine of RB as we've ever had. Had as much zig-n-zag as anyone this side of Barry Sanders. End zone seats were great for watching him run.

Someone metioned Johnny Robinson, the other HB on the '58 team with Billy Cannon. Cannon was AA and All-SEC. Did Robinson even get any spot on the All-SEC team?

Robinson went on to an excellent pro career as a DB with the KC Chiefs and started in SuperBowls 2 and 4. I think he had about a 10 year pro career. He was overshadowed at LSU by Cannon and Rabb( the QB).

That fullback from West Monroe who blocked for Rondell Meadley, Kevin Faulk and Cecil Collins.

And Davis and Toefield. I doubt this is an official stat or record, but I'd be Tommy was in the backfield blocking for the most rushing yards in LSU history.

I hardly ever hear about those guys when LSU fans talk about the all-time greats.

I rarely miss an opportunity to toss Jimmy Taylor's name out there - he was always my all time favorite player - until last year with Jacob Hestor.

One of the reasons I loved Hestor so much was that he reminded me of Jimmy Taylor.

Now it is a tie - I need more time to elapse to decide which is my real all time favorite - Taylor or Hestor - both will forever be in top five.

Robinson was a great DB for LSU - nobody could pass on us. He and Cannon back there just shut everyone down. Definitely overshadowed by Cannon on the offensive side however.

If you want to talk about underrated players from that era though, Red Broadnax - the fullback - was a beast as a blocker for Cannon and Robinson.
