I think Trump and his followers need enemies. It keeps his base insanely loyal and motivated. To be honest it might be for the best that they've spent so much time attacking DeSantis. Imagine the damage that they could be doing by attacking minorities, women or potential swing voters. Their focus on DeSantis is unlikely to cost Trump any votes.
