It needs to be someone who can pull one of the swing states. I like Desantis a lot, but don't know that he moves the needle in that department.

Correct.

Trump needs a swing state moderate.

I like Ron and I hope he's a serious contender in '28, but I don't believe he should hinge his aspirations on being VP to secure the nom.

Being VP would hurt more than it would help. From a purely political, strategic angle there's almost no upside.

Depends on who they're going up against. I can't name any real winners when it comes to the Democrats.Their best Senator is semi -restarted.
The average Dem voter is semi-retarded.

It would ruin his career.

Look at Pence. Hell, look at most of Trumps appointments.

The VP will just be the perpetual scapegoat.

Trump will want Burgum. Smart, successful businessman and governor who won’t upstage DJT.

Tulsi is a possibility, but she’s more of a draw for men than for women. Kinda like how Tim Scott is more of a draw for white women as opposed to black men.

If this is the case, I don’t see why you’re all that opposed to Tulsi being VP.

I'd be more open to it if Trump was 60.

Because if Trump dies, then a social Democrat becomes president.

I don't want Tulsi Gabbard in a position to be President of the United States if the 80+ year old man she serves under dies, for starters.

43% of Americans currently say they’re affiliated with neither party. Tulsi could be very important in getting that 43%.

Trump is 80. If Trump wins, you have a socialist lib one heartbeat away from the White House.

Is it the argument on here that "if you can't beat em, join em" and that only Liberalism wins? That the ONLY way for Trump to win is to add a Prog to his ticket?

Could he win with a right winger or right wing moderate on his ticket? If he could, why would you put a left winger on the ticket instead?

Exactly.

If Trump were young, it would not be that big of an issue.

But will be over 80 when this term is done. No way do I want her near the top office.

Once again you can’t or rather don’t want a president and running mate from the same state. Because of the electorate issues being that they can only make their pick if only one of them is not from the same state. So in a close race the loss of the electorate votes, in this case Florida, could actually cause a loss

When's the last time a VP candidate has actually "pulled a state" for a winning ticket? LBJ?

I mean, he could, but I would like for a near guaranteed victory. Like if he’d drop out and say yes, I’d say Trump’s smartest pick would be RFK Jr because then he’d get 60% of the vote and has nothing really politically to do with RFK.

But on the bright side of not having RFK as his VP, I think RFK would be better positioned in other roles in Trump’s 2nd administration such as the Attorney General, Secretary of State, Head of the FDA/CDC/NIH, or Director of the CIA. Pretty sure RFK would say yes to any of these positions, although I don’t think he’d be confirmed by the Senate in the first two roles I listed above.

This VP pick is critically important because whomever is selected will be a president in waiting of sorts.

So, the pick needs to be viewed as who will be the 2028 candidate. That rules out the Tulsi’s, etc.

The pick also needs to bring in new voters. Trumps biggest weakness is educated suburban voters. These voters likely come back to R once Trump is out of focus.

DeSantis, Youngkin, and the like are the best bets for this reason.
