I’ll answer for him: yes. any glass within 5’ of a shower or tub has to be tempered per building code.
Additionally in a home, pretty much any doors with glass on them must be tempered and any windows within 24” of an opening (such as a door) must be tempered. There are other criteria but that covers most normal glass situations.

Back in the late 60's, the next door neighbor walked over to our house. She didn't notice the back sliding door being closed. She walked through it, a chunk of glass was stuck through her side. Yes by code, those type glass are tempered.
Kind of like a car glass, that breaks into a million pieces.
