I'm not sure how or why this professor thinks it won't affect kids' GPAs or academic well-being when there are a number of scenarios in which it could very badly affect those things.
What a piece of shite person/professor, and this seems like something that should be an easily-fireable offense too since they are not holding to their required duties as a professor.

I can't figure out if this is happening more frequently than when I was in school or if I was just oblivious to most of what was going on since I had other priorities than protesting.

Let's be real these people are selfish assholes
Nothing is more important to them then getting attention for supporting their "cause". Which in this case happens to be riding for a terrorist organization that went across a border to kill and kidnap people, and one that can't really locate/have already killed most of the ones they held captive.
