Extremely expensive real estate skews those averages tremendously. First-time home buyers aren't buying the averages anyway. Most purchase "starter" homes, as they should.

This is a Baton Rouge based-board, so maybe our views are skewed a litte. From a quick Zillow search, you can have your pick of cute little 3/2's between 200k-250k all day long.

Is this "less" house than 5 years ago? Yes. Are they still viable options for living? Definitely. And people are absolutely getting mortgages.

First time homebuyers shouldn’t be allowed to buy homes because they’d rather buy 400k dsld shitboxes built on somebody’s nice cow pasture instead of buying a well built sub 200k fixer up in the almost ghetto or in a God’s waiting room boomer neighborhood
