Comedy Central would have neutered it big time, plus cut half of it out to fit commercials
Comedy Central roasts went downhill at the end. "We roast the ones we love" is just became a lie and it ended up being a random celebrity publicity tour. The Rob Lowe roast was the worst of these offenders (Jewel? Ann Coulter?)
This was closer to form. Everyone on stage was either a professional commedian or had an actual tie to Brady. The two semi-exceptions were some of the weak spots: Will Ferrell (Comedic actor, not necessarily comedian) and Ben Affleck (Actor, but at least he has New England heritage and is a fan of Patriots, so it's not quite random).
The Tom and Burt bit sucked, but those are actual comics so you can at least justify why they would be invited.

Yeah at some point they just became mean instead of “mean but in good fun.” And to your point, one of the best roasts was the roast of Seth Roger because it was basically all of his friends roasting him and they were actually mostly funny. As annoying as Jonah Hill is sometimes, he destroyed in his set.
I finished up the Brady one.
The Kill Tony dude was pretty funny.
Affleck was terrible.
Peyton Manning was good.
Gronk was annoying but some of his lines hit. The funniest thing about Gronk is just how consistently stupid he is.
Robert Kraft was a little awkward; did he have a stroke or something? It seemed like he was slurring his words a little bit. But I enjoyed his Brady story though.
Kevin Hart got worse and worse for me though. I hated how every time he got back on the mike he felt like he has to grade the previous set and then “get even” and talk shite about the last performer for several minutes. And very little of it was funny and it really killed the flow of the show. And him getting drunker as the night went on didn’t help.
I thought Brady did a good job with his rebuttals too. He seems like a fairly likable dude despite me thinking he’s a weird dude.
