Golf wouldn’t be around if not for the likes of jack nicholas and those who played in that era. Those guys were playing to eat and support their families and not being made multimillionaires upon signing up.

Those guys were the greatest ones, woods benefited greatly from the road they paved for him.

Tiger wasn’t playing for multimillions upon signing up either. All of the money in the game of golf is solely because of Tiger.

The purse at the masters when Tiger won in 1997 was $486,000 for the winner. It was $1,305,000 for the winner in 2007. Wonder what made it go up so much

I feel like these two things don’t necessarily go together. The lack of money in golf, meant the fields weren’t as deep. The same way golf is deeper now than when Tiger started playing on Tour as well.
