Someone explain how Trump's mere presence in the Oval Office would have deterred Hamas?
Sure, I will. Only it wouldn't have been his mere presence.
Trump took action when he was in office the first time. He had a portion of Iran's military classified as a terrorist organization. This sent a clear message to Iran, because in doing so he essentially gained the ability to attack Iran without Congressional approval or involvement. It was as clear a signal as possible. It was like flipping on a laser sight and pointing it at them.
He bombed Syria for their treatment of their own people. Not for threatening the US.
He assassinated Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and Qasem Soleimani.
Iran supports Syria because Syria enables Hezbolla. Iran funds Hamas. Iran doesn't get along well with ISIS due to them being anti-Shia, but Trump sent several messages that he wasn't afraid ti kick arse over there and the al-Baghdadi assassination was one of them.
I'm not a Trump cult member, but one thing I do like about him is that he isn't a pussy like so many Huckster Carlson fans these days. He understands leaders like the ones in the Middle East and Putin. He gets them, and they know it. And the biggest thing he gets about them is that he understands that talk means nothing to them. Diplomacy, talk, blah, blah, blah, it means NOTHING to them.
He understands that what you DO is what matters to leaders like them. He has demonstrated that he is willing to act against them and they know it.
I think he' right. I don't think the Hamas thing ever happens with him as POTUS. I don't think Iran would have allowed it, because they would have known that Trump would retaliate against them. Maybe not by way of a bombing or declaration of war, but no Iranian general wants to be the next Qasem Soleimani.
