I guess what I’m asking is if there is a human component similar to what the playoff committee did this past year leaving Florida State out and putting what they viewed as the 4 best teams in the playoff.

If that exists, then it’s hard to say LSU isn’t one of the 64 best teams, regardless of their conference record.

I don’t know how they decide who is in vs out.

In regard to Auburn, they also have a losing schedule overall. Hard to compare them to LSU.

Why do you think that?

I am using them as an example because they have a tougher schedule than us. Our better overall record is somewhat negated because of how weak our OOC schedule is.

There is a human component to the selection, but the FSU situation is not comparable. FSU got left out not because they didn't do enough prior to selection Sunday (they were undefeated), but because the committee didn't think the could compete in the playoffs without their QB. Basically, the argument was the team that went 12 is not the team that would be in the playoffs.

Is LSU better than many mid-major teams who will make the tournament? Yes. But that is not how it works. Those teams will get spots because they won auto-bids. The question is "is LSU one of the best 34 "at large" teams? Right now, probably not.
