i grew up near there. now i am older so maybe different now, there wasnt much out there, the st george thing may be more recent but it was never called that

It’s been called that since at least the 80s. Village St. George grocery (which is now just Village Grocery) is on Perkins and Potwan (although now it’s in a new building).

Edit: At least 1966 according to the St. George Fire Department (when they opened the first St. George Station on Perkins).

quote:

How did you get the name "St. George"? Are you named after the church?

The Department was originally chartered in 1966 as the "Village St. George Volunteer Fire Department and Social Club." So, the original "St. George" was named after the neighborhood off Perkins Road which it was formed to protect and where many of its founders lived. By all accounts, the subdivision was named after the church. LINK

The neighborhood behind St. George Church is Audubon Terrace.
