Serious question: is Austin nice if you’re middle class with a family?

Seems like when I hear about cities being nice places to live, that typically means for rich people to enjoy.

I lived in Austin for several years and moved right as the big tech started to move in. Before all that housing was already starting to get expensive, but you could easily live comfortably in an apartment in the city limits on a modest salary. It's gotten out of control now and I think you have to live a little bit out in the suburbs to make it work, which means long painful commutes to work since I-35 and the mopac are really the only ways to get through town.

So weird. Austin is the biggest US city with only one interstate.

620 and 71 has some awful traffic.

Fun fact. Austin to Houston are the largest US cities where an interstate highway isn’t directly connecting the two cities.
