I understand the papers he wrote in his past and the fear and anger people had when he was hired. And I remember the rumors of the coaching search where he was apparently trying to get a black coach - but that obviously didn't come to fruition.

Absolutely nothing. People are mad we have an outspoken black university president they can't relate to. The dipshits that voted for Landry without thinking twice are just like him.
