I could ask that same question about a lot of places. Meanwhile, we lob another $60B to Ukraine in another “we give up” move from RINO’s. Average Americans continue to struggle just to pay the bills. It’s all pretty depressing to tell the truth.

this is due to French diplomacy, not military strength.

we are only allowed to operate a base in a country we aren't at war with as long as they want us there.

Unless you wanna start an open war with Russia.

Niger's economy is based largely on subsistence crops, livestock, and some of the world's largest uranium deposits.

Niger's Uranium Deposits

This is why it is important...

Why did we spend half a billion to build a base, then get blamed for imperialism for an unstable region that hates Whypipo?

I guess we didn't see the coup coming somehow

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — France has completed the withdrawal of troops from a northern base in Niger as part of a planned departure from the West African country in the wake of July’s military coup.

Nearly 200 troops, 28 trucks and two dozen armored vehicles left the Ouallam military base, which has been handed to Niger, a junta spokesman, Col. Maj. Amadou Abdramane, said Sunday.

France’s withdrawal is expected to be complete by the end of the year. Some 1,500 French troops have been operating in Niger, training its military and conducting joint operations.

The announcement comes weeks after French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will end its military presence in Niger and pull its ambassador out of the country as a result of the coup that removed President Mohamed Bazoum.

Bazoum has been under house arrest with his wife and son for nearly three months, and the junta has cut off his electricity and water.

Last week, people close to Bazoum were unable to reach him for several days and the junta accused him of trying to escape with his family, sparking concern as to his whereabouts. On Monday, a lawyer for Bazoum told The Associated Press he was able to make one phone call on the weekend to say he was OK, but that they no longer had regular contact with him.

it's not that complicated. the previous regime was installed by NATO and NATO friendly. Then Russia pulled off a coup and now the country's leaders owe their allegiance to them.

Yup. Now Niger is cutting ties with the west. The protest from the OP is from five days ago. Yesterday we announced we will pull our troops out. The US and Niger are already negotiating a timetable.

Niger is a sovereign nation and if they don’t want our troops there I say good riddance.

How did we get there originally?

During WW2, when Britain was getting their shite pushed in & asked us to save them, they agreed to turn over their colonial/foreign bases to us.

That's when we became an empire and (most of) the world's police, while England became a shell of its former self, but smartly no longer spends lives or money defending these shithole countries.

Biden is a bitch lol but this is due to France/NATO.

if you spend too much time focusing on potato head you will miss a lot of what is actually going on and who is actually pulling the strings. he's a distraction.

exactly. I mean I'm sure the CIA is already plotting a way to install another coup but they'll probably wait a few years.

Good thing the country with the largest uranium reserves is Australia. Let me know when they cut ties with the west

Next largest is Kazakhstan who has moved away from Russia’s orbit since the invasion of Ukraine.

Don't forget the ever increasing influence of Wagner paramilitary forces operating under Russian guidance. They're everywhere, recruiting and paying populations all over Africa.

True and both statements can be true at the same time.

The issue is controlling access to a nonrenewable resource that is extremely valuable and challenging to our long-term security. It’s not just about securing our access to these resources but preventing access to others…indeed it seems unreasonable to lock down uranium worldwide; however, one can try to make sure the deposits are “secured” as best they can be from the bad actors.

Yes. Which is ironic, the man leading this African charge for Russia had his plane blown out of the sky by Putin.
