The indigenous people in New Guinea were absolutely brutal to the Japanese for obvious reasons whenever they got the opportunity. I've never seen anything indicating that they mistreated, much less ate, the American and Aussies that were fighting alongside them against the Japanese on the island. To the contrary, they often acted as guides to routes over the mountains, water sources, etc.
