He's the least competitive hitter in baseball

This is a legit question, not a troll. How long has Abreu been this bad? This sounds a lot like stuff we were saying about Ozuna in April last year. He was probably a week from being DFA'd before he suddenly caught fire when the calendar flipped to May and he has arguably been the best hitter in baseball since then.

Ozunas batted ball profile still remained pretty good. Question was could you afford to wait it out and did you have a better option to DH.
Abreu profile is god awful. Don't really think it's a comparison.

His power outage started at the end of 2022 but he was still hitting decently. Supposedly last year he was dealing with a back injury that he tried to play through which we had even speculated about it. His swing was all arms, had no base to generate any torque in his core. He hit like shite for most of the first half. Think he got IL'd came back and had a decent stretch after the all star break and then fell off again by years end. He was decent in the playoffs, Maybe one last gasp of rejuvenation.

But he looks absolutely done this year. This looks like a 37 year old who was in obvious decline last year and looks to have fallen off a cliff this year. He can't even touch 88 to 90. Routinely swings through it.
