I've always wondered about this...like how do you know that those are the actual remains of you're loved one. Also I imagine they don't clean the furnace/incinerator after every use, so does that mean it's not just your loved one's ashes in there?

Humans are cremated in single chamber incinerators, so there's only one body at a time in there and it has to be cleaned out completely each time.
I worked with a bulk waste incinerator before and if it's not cleaned out each time you'll get an incomplete burn and have to burn again. Going into to clean the incinerator out and finding an incomplete burn at the bottom is a smell burned into my nostrils.
