I think you mean to say that some are on long term assignment at one school.

Here's why that's unlikely in this case.

In order to do anything but babysit temporarily, you have to have credentials in the classes you are subbing for. Anybody can walk in and babysit for a day or two, but if you are on long term assignment and are going to actually be teaching and testing and giving grades (which is why you guys are saying that this would be relevant), you have to have a degree and a certificate in that subject area.

Now, that does happen. If you have the degree and credentials but you don't have a permanent job yet you could get an assignment like that for someone who quit part-way through the year or was out on extended leave or something.

Is that what was happening in this case?

When I taught, sub or not, my check came from the district.

Most teachers are district employees.
