Louisiana has one of the lowest academic rankings in the country. Who would have thought that a college with most students from that state would not be prestigious.

You’re 100% right. As much as people don’t want to admit it on here, Louisiana has a small talent pool when it comes to smart kids.. Combine that with the fact that the majority of LSU’s student body is from in-state, it’s not hard to figure out why LSU’s academic rankings are near the bottom of the SEC.
The higher-ups at Tulane knew that the only way to boost endowment and academic rankings was to go after out-of-state students who were in the top 10% of their class. They went that route, and because of that, Tulane has much better academic rankings and a much higher endowment than LSU.
