I think there is some validity to your claim, but you are missing the bigger point. Her confidential sources were in those documents. She was investigating the US Gov't. Now those sources are likely compromised.
It's usually been a golden standard that the "News" company protects its reporters, but not anymore if you start digging into forbidden topics.
