I don't know if this is the right thread, but I wonder what the best use of NIL money would be. Assuming we have a limited pot for baseball, is it best used to try to entice borderline high school guys, transfer guys out of the portal, or sophomore draft-eligible guys like Jones and Herring. I'm sure Kling will get drafted late, but at this point, I'd bet he opts to come back for another year of development.
The answer is obviously to split it up as best as Jay can, but the timing of them making their decisions has to be factored in. Don't want to "save" money for draft eligible guys who wind up signing at the last minute and wind up literally holding the bag of money with no one left to spend it on. I guess this is more of a "I'm curious about how Jay will handle it" than a "questioning Jay's strategy for handling it."
I'm sure he's got his finger on the pulse enough to know where to allocate the money the best. But I was really surprised that Coleman and Little didn't sign and came back. I just wasn't sure there would be enough innings for them on this staff to really improve their stock to justify it. I was right and wrong, I guess. Turns out there are plenty of innings for those guys if they'd have stepped up and taken them. Unfortunately, it seems they are the same guys they were last year. I do wonder if money spent on them (and maybe Ack) might have gotten us Montgomery from Stanford. Or was he always just going to A&M.
