I had some empathy for people who threw a fit over things like this, but no more. Our schools were open yesterday, but a letter was sent home before the Easter break that notified parents that any absences yesterday would be excused because of the eclipse.
I didn’t really think anything of it until a few minutes before the morning bell yesterday. The middle school that I teach at has an enrollment of 324 students in grades 6-8. Yesterday, a grand total of 27 of those students came to school. We couldn’t do anything other than combine them by grade level and sit around all day.
There is no doubt in my mind that a significant number of parents who didn’t send their kids to school yesterday will be up in arms about school being closed tomorrow.
