Because people are sheep and since the media is making a huge deal, people are losing their shite. Its absolutely ridiculous to see

What media are you watching and reading? Most of us who ignore obvious clickbait have not seen such bullshite. Regular media has talked about traffic, groceries, and an abundance of people using cell phones as it's happening.
7 years ago, there wasn't much coverage of this, and small towns in states like Idaho and Nebraska got absolutely rocked by travelers. Maybe the media is now over compensating, but the media you're referring to has not been on my radar.

On Walton and Johnson this morning they were talking about a comedian who said he was gonna go buy a bunch of blowup dolls and fill them full of helium in the eclipse. He was gonna release them so people thought it was the rapture.

My stepdaughter works in the Jeff. Parish School System and they are shutting down at noon today over a damn eclipse of all things.
The stupidity of this is mind-boggling to me. The idiots are acting like they are living with early civilization mentality and the world may end soon.

They are very uncommon. Annular eclipses are more frequent, but still uncommon. We had one of those last October, but it hardly gets any media coverage because it's not as magical as totality.

Exactly. I’ve seen maybe three news articles that talk about basic stuff, when where and the standard “don’t look at the damned thing without protective eyewear” message.
The schools sent out two emails saying they’re taking the kids outside to see it and providing glasses.
That’s it. That’s all I’ve heard about it from “the media”. Meanwhile, I’ve seen like ten threads on the OT about people freaking out and how sick of it they are. Maybe this is a “where are you spending your screen time” problem for some people .
