Born in '64 so came of age in the 70s.

Maybe they were a South Florida thing, but does anybody remember lightning bolt flip flops? They were huge in the early to mid 70s. Also, puka shell necklaces.

A line in one of Styx's songs was "here come the 80s," I remember it like it was yesterday.

Heck, during Duck season, most all the pickup trucks had at least one, if not two guns in the gunrack on the back window. And nobody thought anything about it. And this was at a private school.

The start of the obesity epidemic and subsequent (though not always nutritionally related) societal collapse is often harmlessly right in front of you in nostalgia threads.

How about being trusted by your parents to ride your bicycle ALL day Saturday w/o supervision (and obviously w/o being tracked by a cell phone) even though you were only 16 years old?? The conversation would go something this: "Hey mom, _______ (insert the name of your best friend) and I are going to ride our bicycles and go out to Smith River (10 miles away). We'll be back in time for supper, ok?"

I remember a line in a song by Asia called Heat of the Moment:
“And now you find yourself in ‘82
The disco hotspots hold no charm for you “

.. i remember it like it was 6 months ago, it’s been over 40 years .

16? I was doing that at 7. By 12 I was taking the bus an hour away into the city (SF) to hang out. 16? I had a car. I might be 300 miles away on a Saturday.

I think there was a law that every white male born from '61-'67 had to own this album in the 70s.

“ I'm a 90's kid but I love the sunken living rooms with conversation pits. Did anyone have that in their homes?”

Had brick steps leading down to our sunken den . Chanadiliers in every room and of course shag carpet. We had to rack the carpet, we had a special rack for that. Brick steps going up to the bathtubs too.

Born in 1970. I remember all the things you posted.

Talking about the TV and rabbit ears reminded me of going to the store with my dad to test the vacuum tubes from time to time.

All of us in the neighborhood saved up our money to buy one of these:

Logan Earth Ski with Kryptonics wheels

To take to one of these (the closest ones to us living in the suburbs were in Houston):

Texas Pipeline Skatepark in Southwest Houston

I also remember begging my parents for one of these for Christmas:

And this brand of shirt was pretty popular back then as well:

Kennington Polo

As we're these (at least in the Houston/Galveston area as I recall):

Tiddies

I went on a kick when I was about 11 collecting different types of oil lamps and lanterns.

unlike lava lamps and plasma balls you can get at 5 below these days.

I bought my little girl a couple lava lamps when she was younger. One leaked and the other didn’t get very bright.

Bought her one of those neon globe things and she actually liked it. She liked to turn it on along with her LEDs in her room at night.

Those things killed. Mikey died after eating pop rocks and drinking a coke. Well, that was the rumor, anyways.

I always think it’s odd that the OT comments on the fitness/slenderness of said people from photos from 70/80/90s

You realize these people in these photos are the elderly fat fricks that you’re seeing right now?

Yeah, well they're not teens anymore and they eventually got ruined by the same high calorie/highly processed diet like the rest of us.

It started earlier than 16, but that age sticks in my mind because I was recovering from a stress fracture and rode my bicycle a LOT, especially since I didn't have a car until I went to college and there was no public transportation where I grew up.
