I have an acre lot with the house on top of a hill sloping down towards the bottom of the lot. How difficult/ expensive would it be to put in a 200-300 sqft green at the bottom? I would use turf for the green itself. Is this something I could do myself?

This comes up periodically. From what I've read here, artificial greens don't particularly hold chip shots very well. There are some good youtube videos on creating an artificial turf green but prep work is incredibly critical. You'll need a lot more base material than you think. And a way to move all of that material (shovel and wheel barrow or a tractor). You'll also need a gas powered tamper to compact the base material. The turf material is around $2-4 a sq ft depending I'm guessing on quality.

Having said that, I would still be interested in doing one my own also. We are on 2.5 acres with a good stretch to put a little par 3 hole on. I just can't quite convince myself to do it yet.

I got some extensive quotes a couple years ago. The turf options won’t hold a chip shot and will bounce around, real grass options have the maintenance issue.

The super high end turf options do a better job but they can be 30-50 dollars a foot installed.

We decided not to do it bc it wouldn’t have had the chip and putt from around the yard capabilities
