One of the best scenes ever. R. Lee Ermey was a technical advisor for the movie and helped Gossett with his role.

Did not know that. Hadn't seen Officer and a Gentleman in years but watching the clip you posted it's remarkably similar to the FMJ opening scene
Met Gunnery Sergeant Hartman at the Modern Day Marine trade show at Quantico. He was the talent, taking pictures and signing autographs. Very cool guy, didn't just take a pic but asked everyone about their service, their family, their future, etc.
Somewhere I have a pic of me doing the "choke yourself" and him yelling at me
