My kids are currently a daughter of 27 and son of 24. My daughter went to La Tech for two years but then transferred back home to LSUS and lived at home. She graduated after four years (couple of major changes) and got a job. Stayed living with us til she was 25 and then moved out when she got married.
My son lived at home for two years after graduating high school while he was working on getting his journeyman’s in plumbing. At 20 he decided he wanted to move out against my advice. I advised him to stay living at home and saving money until he completed his trade training and started making better money. He bought an $80k house in Blanchard and moved out. House needed work but had good bones. Helped him fix it up over the next few months. Actually turned out to be a great decision. He bought a 1200sf 3/1 house for $80k at 2% interest. His house note is like $475 a month. He is now making $28 hour and just married a girl that is a dental hygienist making about $65k a year. With the overtime he works I think they made about $130k last year. They paid off all her student loans in one year and are just going to bank a shite ton of money until the housing market gets a little better.
Proud of both my kids. Was willing to assist both of them as they were working towards getting done what they needed to be able to get good jobs. As soon as they did, they both became self sufficient.
