You can play golf your whole life and get lessons and suck your whole life.

Based on the number of people who reach at least a collegiate level of competency later in life, I'd say the "easiest" path is probably to be huge and go football/basketball.
It's the only sport I'm aware of where you regularly have lineman, 5s, etc. who come from other countries with only a couple of significant years of experience and get opportunities at a pretty high level.
That's not to diminish skill/athleticism in those positions, it just is what it is. If you have the right frame, you'll have a reasonable chance of getting a higher level opportunity. And given the pool you're competing with is so much smaller than almost every other position in any sport, you probably just don't have to have the same level of skill to become competent.
