There is a difference between working together seamlessly and preventing other companies from interfacing at all. For example, all apps have to be vetted by Apple and sold throug the app store. If they don't like you or your app, they can slow-walk the approval and/or deny approval.

Related, this was how Apple and Google stuck a knife in Trump's back. When Twitter (pre-musk) cracked down on pro-trump content and people went to Parler, Parler was then banned as "anti democratic" by the app stores.
