They are dropping "Duty, Honor, Country" from the Mission Statement (it was only added to it in 1998). Duty, Honor, Country is remaining the Motto.


So...the motto dates back to 1898, but it was 100 years later when it was added to the Mission Statement...and now, 25 years later, it has been dropped from said statement.

Personally, I don't know why you would drop the motto...just read George MacArthur's speech from 1962, when he addressed the Corps and emphasized the motto's significance, and you will understand why it embodies what West Point is all about.
