Apparently the Civil Preparedness people in Topeka do not own a map of Shawnee County. Around 8:30pm they set off the tornado sirens here for a tornado that was north of Rossville and moving northeast. For the non-Kansans reading this that means they set off the sirens for a tornado 20 miles northwest of Topeka and moving out of the county and away from the city. Never even rained here.

That happened here in Wichita during the last Andover tornado. Sirens were going off in West Wichita while the storm was over Andover and moving NE. I think since it included a small bit of Sedgwick county they just fired them off over the whole county

A lot of tornado siren systems are county wide systems, despite the fact that tornado warnings are polygons and don’t typically include a whole county. Those old school siren systems sound if any part of the county is under a warning. That’s how NOAA weather radio still is, too.
