Also, do cops not get training in de-arming someone? This was a gardening tool for goodness sakes.

First of all, “gardening tool” is a little misleading. That was a full length hoe or spade or something. Easily capable of killing somebody.

2nd. That kid is man sized.

“Not a weapon”????? Are you serious? If he’d hit him over the head with that, it could’ve killed him. These news agencies purposefully word things to make them look innocent. They are provacatures and should be treated as such. They should name the tool and be clear that serious damage could’ve occurred but they’d rather people think it was a plastic rake or water hose.
