Constitutional carry is great and all, but with a CHP you get immunity as of 7/4/24

Act 2 of 2024 2nd Extraordinary Session

That plus quick checks for purchases are definite incentives.

Can you explain the CHP further?

These legi clowns can’t do shite (anything good) without caveats.
This won’t prevent a lawsuit if you blast someone.

Concealed Handgun Permit
Requires 8 hour class, proficiency, fingerprinting and background check by state police.
Reup every 5 years with 4 hour refresher, range proficiency and paperwork.
Fees involved, but not prohibitive.
Also, reciprocity with just about every other permit state (there's not full reciprocity with all other constitutional carry states).

No, but it gives you a quick out of the case.

Wait a second....you want immunity from criminal prosecution when the person acted maliciously?

Agreed, a little bone they threw to the State Police revenue stream.

You think that someone who gets a CHP should have a license to kill?

If only.
That's not what this is. But, you know that.

I know. I was responding to the post suggesting it wasn't sufficient because it wasn't an absolute immunity.

How does a state immunity law do when competing against a FEDERAL murder charge???

I don't think this law will apply only to those with permits in light of the passage of SB1.

While this is true, if you combine this with a good concealed carry insurance policy that, at a minimum, provides for the cost of your defense, you are in a much better position.

By its language, it does not extend to constitutional carry

What does "full" reciprocity" mean? This is an honest question.
If one reads the laws, reciprocity isn't relevant with constitutional carry. You don't get 'extra' rights or privileges in the 28 other states that already allow constitutional carry, the only potential additional benefit for a Louisiana permit would be in a state that doesn't acknowledge constitutional carry and requires these silly government-issued permission slips.
If someone can define what this additional "full reciprocity" concept means, it would be helpful for the discussion and/or we can put this myth of reciprocity's value to bed.
To reinforce that reciprocity isn't relevant, a Louisiana resident can drive to Mississippi, Texas or the 25 other states today and exercise constitutional carry as the laws are written, as they apply to anyone who can legally possess a firearm. There are no references to 'residents' in the Louisiana or Texas laws, only citizens.
I haven't read this new bill yet, it will interesting to see the extent to which this immunity from civil claims extends.
For instance, a Vermont resident (his home state doesn't issue any permit) is traveling through Louisiana yet cannot avail himself of this law's benefit if he defended himself in good faith and were sued by an attacker.
