To clarify, I wasn't even speaking specifically to appearance externally, but what I see as a disease that is rooted internally yet presents from a symptom standpoint in some of the appearance items others have mentioned in this thread.

I agree that men have declined from an appearance standpoint, I just think their decline is for other reasons.

I also excluded obesity because that to me is the number one cause of aesthetic decline across gender. That issue sources back to diet, but a significant improvement in perceived attractiveness would be achieved if the average American lost 10-20lbs.

Setting aside diet based obesity, there is a huge cohort of men who in my opinion have basically given up trying to attract a female and for that reason have put on weight, let their grooming and dressing go and look like a stereotype of an incel or gamer as a result.

Im not a sociologist or anthropologist, but I'd bet that much of what we've seen historically from men trying to look appealing in a traditional way stems from trying to pass on their genes.

When a sizeable percentage of men give up on that quest, why would we expect them to maintain the effort that went into looking good for women?

Call it depression.
