Things to do in Copenhagen?

Freetown Christiania- There is a street market (used to be able to buy hash) some restaurants including a place that has a vegetarian buffet and a beer garden. But its cool to walk around the little lake where people have built their own houses. Some are just plywood and plastic and some are really nice houses. The entire place is full of hippies so have an open mind.

Kirkegard and Hans Christian Anderson graves are in a cool, old cemetery

The Louisiana Museum (not associated with the state of Louisiana) is a modern art museum set on a cliff overlooking the sea. Its about 30 minutes outside copenhagen.

Kronborg Castle in the town of Helsingør was where Hamlet was set.

You can take the train over the big bridge to Malmo, Sweden which has a huge pedestrian only area full of shops and cafes.

biked over there one night while i was there. very surreal

tivoli is fun; dont believe the hype; its just a half dozen fair rides and some nice grassy areas to chill on and a few nice restaurants. i think that lousiana musuem zappa mentioned is right next door to tivoli.


if you are in any kind of biking shape and you dare..grab a bike; most hotels have them for guests for free or maybe a couple bucks..and ride around. you will quickly realize they take biking SERIOUSLY and the signals in the city are meant for cyclists so if you dawdle or don't stamp on your pedals when the light changes to YELLOW (yes yellow, then green) you will get ABUSED by the locals. also stay in your lane. there are straight lanes and left and right turn lanes and God help you if you wander into someone's line who is barrelling up behind you.

still a blast. i rode everywhere when i was there. you don't need a car and in fact, you'll go slower if you use one. cars are beholden to cyclists.

get a hot dog off the street

walk the stairs in that tall arse building in the center of town.

eta also if you're there in the summer, post up by the canal and people watch. its as close to utopia as the world gets. people out playing instruments, couples just randomly dancing, young adults lounging on boats moored off the canal. just pure happiness. it never failed to make me smile hanging out near the canal area.

I had logged around 10k miles on my bike and competed in maybe 15 races the year before I went.

I thought I knew how to ride a bike.
