Meant to put standings. But he was in the masters so how can he not automatically be invited back this year? That is your metric with liv players
If they made the masters in 2022 or 2023 it’s ridiculous they aren’t in 2024

How about Kieth Mitchell. The corrupt golf media is so politically involved keeping him from majors this year
Posted on 3/5/24 at 1:39 pm to lsupride87
I’m also going off of their performance on LIV since then.

I think the lack of cross tour play for the LIV guys is going to make it tough to judge them against players that play PGA/DP/Majors more frequently. If its the same field every tournament for the year then one guy might be winning a ton and shoot really low scores, but is that just from the other players on that tour getting worse? no way to tell if they don't play other guys.

You’re picking terrible examples. His highest ranking ever is 44th. He’s a fringe top 50 player at the top of his career
The LIV guys being kept out were ranked much higher than top 40

You listed Varner, a high rank of 35
Ok what about Kuchar? Will it be corrupt golf media keeping him out too? Rickie Fowler? Webb Simpson?
At some points those former top guys missed it or will miss it this year

Were they playing golf against some of the best players in the world and were still denied OWGR points?

He also won a LIV event & has had four top 10s since last years Masters

Henrik Stenson couldn’t make cuts anymore and then he went and won a liv event
Posted on 3/5/24 at 1:55 pm to lsupride87
So now we’re going back to 2022 when they had half of the talent on LIV
ETA: hey dumbass, Stenson made the cut & finished T13 (The Open) and 2nd (Saudi Open) in his last two OWGR tournaments in 2023

Data Golf seems like the best product by far right now for world rankings. The biggest issue with OWGR is that too many of the first wave players have dropped to levels that even if the OWGR started ranking them, field strength would be way too low.
The No Laying Up guys talked about a cool tool on Data Golf that I have been playing around with called Tournament Summaries. It shows the field strength of each tournament by strokes gained. It also has a formula called "X-Score" which is the probability the field beats a +2 strokes gained player.
If you sort tournaments by strokes gained, LIV tournaments are behind the Signature/Elevated/whatever small field events the PGA is doing and Waste Management, but above the rest of the run of the mill PGA tournaments. By X Score, due to field size, the PGA tournaments are ranked as harder. But LIV tournaments have a higher X Score than DP World Tour.

Pride - what do you think about the PGA going to a closed shop for it's elevated events? I don't think they are much better than a LIV event when you only have a few spots open to based on the results of the prior regular PGA events, especially when the sponsorship exemptions are going to guys like Peter Malnati and Webb Simpson.
It will be very interesting to see how much churn that top 50 has in FedEx points at the end of the season, because if 40/45 out of 50 guys remain the same, it is basically LIV with the veneer of qualifying.

Thats exactly what they did. Giving LIV points would be acting with bias
giving LIV full PGA tour event points would probably be too much, but ignoring it completely and not giving them ANY points is ridiculous.

I think that is why Norman finally threw in the towel.

Get out of here with your common sense approach.

....or follow the rules or you will get nothing. If they wanted points they should have stayed on tour.

The tournament is 3 full rounds of competitive golf and Its not like people are letting kids out there to take shots or something.
If the cut is the issue then don't give points to anyone outside the top 10 or even top 5. If three rounds is the issue then reduce the points given by 1/4. If the field size is the issue, then reduce the points by the percentage less players that LIV has over an average tour event.
OWGR did none of this and instead just denied them completely.

Nah, it's not their job to capitulate. Conform or get nothing.

their job is to rank the golfers in the world in whatever competitions they participate in, which is why even non-PGA tour events get points. They develop formulas for lower level events, but have refused to do that for LIV because they're in their feelings about the top players leaving the PGA tour.

You didn't list the main reason they don't get points.

Nah, they told LIV what they needed to do. LIV did not do it. Tough shite.
