Some of those cannonball runs have exposed the shortcomings of EVs like the Hyundai Ionic, Ford Lightning, and Hummer. It seems like the hype for them deflated significantly after that. Companies like Mercedes, General Motors, Ford, and Hyundai have since extended their EV rollout schedule and redirected more $$ towards the next generation of ICE vehicles.

EV's make total sense for commuter cars and delivery vehicles that drive repeatable, predictable urban/suburban routes. That's why it's so weird that Ford and GM have put so much effort into their electric pickup trucks. Pickup drivers often don't have repeatable, predictable routes. That's the worst possible configuration for a first or second generation electric vehicle.
