All I know is Jason Mamoa is about to be cashing checks! Duncan Idaho is the center of the Dune universe.
I had forgotten how weird it gets in the later books.
Also recently watched the OG Dune and it’s definitely a bit out there but not as wild as I was expecting especially considering Lynch directed it. Enjoyed the first half of that movie way more than the second half. Was that weird monster thing part of the space guild? That would not have flown in today’s movies.

It's basically what happens to a human that consumes and breathes too much spice for decade and decades. It's a mutation of a person.
And Yes... from what little I know of Dune books, it was quite an accurate depiction of the Spacing Guild Navigators.
I watched Lynch's version right after seeing Dune 2 and I must say, I think his version is more True to the story than the new ones. He was just so constrained on time, he got fricked in the second and third act.
The effects and art direction though, are simply stunning 40 years later.
That movie gets way too much shite in hindsight. It was just too weird compared to Star Wars, which was at its apex in the early 80s.

Discussing Duncan with friends of mine who had only either read the first book or seen the Lynch film always got interesting.
I would mention he was the only character in all the books then they would inevitably say “really? He died in the first one.”
