I told my friend on Saturday that I could see this like the Chronicles of Narnia reboot, where the first 2 get investment and then by the 3rd (Children of Dune, in this instance), they will get a lesser director, budget, actors, etc.
We better get a big budget, with a great director, version of God Emperor of Dune.

All I know is Jason Mamoa is about to be cashing checks! Duncan Idaho is the center of the Dune universe.
I had forgotten how weird it gets in the later books.
Also recently watched the OG Dune and it’s definitely a bit out there but not as wild as I was expecting especially considering Lynch directed it. Enjoyed the first half of that movie way more than the second half. Was that weird monster thing part of the space guild? That would not have flown in today’s movies.

It's basically what happens to a human that consumes and breathes too much spice for decade and decades. It's a mutation of a person.
And Yes... from what little I know of Dune books, it was quite an accurate depiction of the Spacing Guild Navigators.
I watched Lynch's version right after seeing Dune 2 and I must say, I think his version is more True to the story than the new ones. He was just so constrained on time, he got fricked in the second and third act.
The effects and art direction though, are simply stunning 40 years later.
That movie gets way too much shite in hindsight. It was just too weird compared to Star Wars, which was at its apex in the early 80s.

While I liked those three prequel books, there were some serious problems with them by the third one simply due to them not figuring out how to get to where the original Dune was without hitting a reset button on several things.
Having one particular character replaced with a Tleilax clone wouldn’t have been an issue if the same character hadn’t been killed off again over a decade later and them not being able to provide another one.

Discussing Duncan with friends of mine who had only either read the first book or seen the Lynch film always got interesting.
I would mention he was the only character in all the books then they would inevitably say “really? He died in the first one.”

It's a very slow moving book. Need to merge with third book

I absolutely HATE the weirding module crap. Really screwed up things. Perfect example of Hollywood screwing with a great book

Atia gets possessed by the Baron, her grandfather, in it too.
Love how they foreshadowed this in Dune part 2 whenever Stilgard is explaining to Paul how the Demons wandering the sands can and will possess you.

I wish the new ones had more of that weirdness.
