I had to take a field test to get my hunting license, why does some 21 yr old kid whose never operated a firearm before get to just walk right in and purchase one with no safety course taken or anything?
Because this is America. I have a hunting license and orange card from Hunter Safety class. I also have my CC permit. I had a very good instructor, and he did not teach us anything in that class that is not common sense.
A CC permit instructional class does not make you a better firearms handler. You put 20 rounds on paper at 10 ft.
It is a Catch-22. This is America and we have rights to own firearms and it is an extremely slippery slope when you give away an ounce of that freedom to liberals that hate this country and hate it’s values. Look at what’s happening right now in Colorado where they are about to implement an “assault weapons ban” that will include semi-auto shotguns. That’s right, that Browning A5 Gramps gave you will no be illegal. So we cannot ever give an inch on gun laws because we will never get that inch back.
I can see the other side of it when you consider how many fricking idiots are amongst us, like this dumbass that was in Chimes. That weapon should have been holstered. There is no such thing as “the gun went off.” It is pure negligence and low IQ.

Who decides what that is?
You remember the grandma in Katrina getting her revolver confiscated right?
It's not a catch-22, it's the 2nd Amendment, that is pretty clear.
Advocate for more gun safety classes in middle and high schools. Boy and Girl scouts. Parents that aren't morons, teach them.
But none of it can be compulsory. I don't need any training to exercise my 1st amendment rights, do I? It's kind of self correcting, if you f up with a gun, at least in Houston, you'll get corrected rather quickly.

Annnddd this is why 2nd graders will continued to get slaughtered in classrooms in America.. we are the only big-boy country where things like that happen with regularity .
Pure insanity .

Wyoming had no laws except for carrying into a bank or church. Walked in from the field during hunting season, I had filled my antelope tag that morning. Into the bank to cash a check. Tap on the shoulder "Forget something?" Raised my hands, "Want to take that until I'm ready to leave.?"
"Hunting this morning?" "Grizzly seen nearby three days ago." "One in the chamber." Five for the bear and one for me."
Line was laughing .....typical day in the wild west.....
