Look into Blood Flow Restriction.
A ton of research on it. It helps keep muscle mass post surgical during your recovery process. One great thing about it is that the occlusion range is very wide for it to show benefits. I believe it's between 40-80%. So there is a wide range to work with. If you are going to PT after your surgery, talk to your PT about it. They should know.

ETA: Sorry you said prep and I gave you recovery. BFR work will still be good for Prehab.
