No. They did it on purpose moron, so they could fleece the Giants.
They drafted Eli and traded Eli to fhe Giants for Rivers and picked up the Giants 3rd rounder in 04 and 1st/5th rounders in 05. They literally got Rivers and three picks including a future first rounder.

This is irrelevant to the discussion, as usual you deflect from the original point because your original point, drafting a QB and sitting them behind an established veteran to take over eventually like the Packers with Rodgers/Love is not only not common it’s pretty much just the Packers.
Rivers is also QB. The Chargers were taking a QB because they were a bad team the year before and Brees had struggled. He was benched for 41 year old Doug Flutie mid way thru the 21 season. That situation is not comparable the the current Saints possibly taking QB with Carr a 32 y/o vet going into his 11th season.
