You do realize that total deadcap is only part of this discussion, right?

You are the one saying we couldnt move on from Carr/not draft a qb because of his 2026 dead cap hit.

JLove sat for 3 full years. ARod - 3 full years.

Which is why the situation with ARod is on par. In 2020 the packers knew ARod may retire/leave etc. They drafted their heir apparent, regardless of what could happen with their cap - dead cap looming etc. that was the right move.

Saints know Carr will be getting long in the tooth by age 36 or so (and he aint ARod) - bad cap or not we are going to be looking for the heir apparent.

Just like we would have done with Brees/Mahomes given the chance.

One example (that isn't comparable to our situation) = common.

One example? No. Literally been done repeatedly in nfl history. When your QB is old lots of teams invest in a high draft pick for a potential heir apparent.

Niners - montana/young/garcia
Niners - Garrapolo/Lance
Chargers - Flutie/brees/rivers (bress sat for 1, rivers sat for 2 years)
Packers - favre/rodgers/J love
Chiefs - Smith/mahomes
Cowboys - Romo/Prescott
Patriots - Brady/Garropolo
Falcons - Chandler/Vick
Bengals - Kitna/Palmer (sat for 1 year)
Giants - Warner/Eli Manning
Chargers - Tyrod Taylor/Herbert - was going to sit until Tyrod got hurt
Raven - Flacco/Lamar Jackson - Lamar sat until week 11 after Flacco got hurt.

In combination with our entire cap situation

We are already over the 2025 cap, brother (it's 2024).

The Packers were not in nearly as dire of a cap situation as the Saints are now.

Everyone agrees that is the ONE example of this in the modern era.

One example?

One example under the current CBA, where all the positive EV for a QB is on his rookie deal.

You have the Packers and then either (1) situations that are ancient or (2) 1-year sits, which is fine (but which we can't really afford to do).
