There are lots of comments her that speculate, but if you read the agenda of the ordinance it explains it.

It outlines that LSU is soliciting firms and organizing financing for a new area( although it still feels like it could be a revamp of the PMAC since that's what the TAF has been exploring along with a new arena.)

It also states the scope of the ordinance is not to inhibit or compete with the new area. That what limiting the river center pertains to. They wont compete for live music and other things the new arena will try to attract once it is opened.

It also explores the possibility of just getting rid of the existing arena and developing a full convention space with on site hotel.

The ordinacne would be a win for LSU and TAF. It would basically fosters and supports the building of a new on campus arena.

(3) FURTHER RECOGNIZING THAT A COMPETING FACILITY IN THE GREATER EAST BATON ROUGE REGION TO THE NEW LSU ARENA, WILL PREVENT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TAF PROJECT, IF THE NEW LSU ARENA IS DEVELOPED AND THEREAFTER CONSTRUCTED, THE CITY-PARISH, REPRESENTED BY THE METRO COUNCIL, AGREES TO RESTRICT, PREVENT AND PROHIBIT LIVE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT ACTIVITIES TO BE HELD OR CONDUCTED INSIDEROPERTY OWNED BY THE CITY-PARISH, INCLUDING, THE RAISING CANE’S RIVER CENTER COMPLEX (“RIVER CENTER COMPLEX”), OTHER THAN THE RIVER CENTER PERFORMING ARTS THEATRE (“CITY-PARISH RESTRICTION”) AND THE EXHIBITION HALL FOR LIVE MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT EVENTS WITH NO GREATER THAN 3,500 ATTENDEES, UNLESS OTHERWISE AGREED UPON BY THE METRO COUNCIL AND TAF IN WRITING.

Do you really expect most people here to actually read?

Sounds like the people trying to get funding together for the PMAC/new arena needed this so as to eliminate the River Center as potential competition for concerts.

(5) FURTHER RECOGNIZING THAT THE NEW LSU ARENA, THE ADDITIONAL CONVENTION CAPACITY AND THE CONVENTION HOTEL WILL RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLIC BENEFITS; AND

(6) PROVIDING FOR OTHER MATTERS IN CONNECTION WITH THE FOREGOING.

Who ever wrote this, gets an "F". So, is this what the Ordinance is trying to convey:

- LSU plans to build a new arena.
- LSU plans to build an arena with the capacity large enough to hold concerts, conventions in addition to basketball, gymnastics, volleyball...
- LSU plans to build a hotel for the new arena
- LSU is requesting that the River Center to remain at it's current capacity so that the River Center will not compete with the New LSU arena.
