I've talked to a few people that have seen test screenings. You will get very little in terms of the "why." The movie is not straight war movie as it's being portrayed in trailers - far more cerebral. It's Alex Garland so that's to be expected.

There's gonna be a lot of pissed people thinking they get a full on war movie.

Yeah apparently it’s more about this reporter and her crew following the lives of people living in the war more than the war itself and why it’s going on

These are usually the worst types of movies. Set realistic expectations and don't try and dupe your audience.
